Présentation de Sebastian

At the LNS, high-quality diagnostics rely on rigorous teamwork and complementary expertise. Today, we shine a light on Sebastian Perrone, Technical Manager in the Department of Medical Biology.

Technical expertise at the heart of medical biology

Sebastian plays a key role in developing and improving laboratory analyses, particularly in metabolomics, a field closely linked to mass spectrometry. His main tasks involve method validation and verification to support both biologists and lab technicians, primarily focusing on metabolic analyses related to mass spectrometry, but also contributing to automated processes when needed. One of his top priorities? Organizing and planning the expansion of the analysis panel—especially in newborn screening, which is set to increase in the near future—by developing new projects, methods, and analyses, validating new equipment, and providing scientific support.

Teamwork and on-the-ground problem-solving

Sebastian is also a crucial point of contact when unexpected issues arise. Whether it is an incorrect result or an unidentified technical error, he works hands-on with the team to troubleshoot and find effective solutions. This cross-functional collaboration with units like newborn screening, toxicology, and allergology feeds his passion for continuous learning and scientific innovation.

Precision with a direct impact on patients

Sebastian is driven by the impact his work has on patient care and quality of life. As 80% of diagnoses are based on lab results, the team strives to deliver the highest quality of analysis within a timeframe compatible with adequate patient care. “Our analyses must be accurate, relevant, and fully compliant with our internal quality management standards. His commitment to quality ensures that every result makes a meaningful contribution to the diagnostic process and, ultimately, to the patient journey, while also supporting the renewal of our OLAS accreditation.

A career shaped by a passion for science

After obtaining his PhD two years ago, Sebastian joined the LNS to remain closely connected to the scientific field and public health. What motivated him? The opportunity to work alongside highly qualified professionals in a cutting-edge environment with a significant impact on patients’ daily lives.
