Infectious diseases and microbiology
Infectious diseases are caused by microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria and fungi. At the LNS, our teams detect and identify these microorganisms using specialised analyses to better understand infections, support diagnosis and help tailor patient care.
We also contribute to the surveillance of infectious diseases in Luxembourg, including respiratory viruses, HIV and hepatitis, helping to protect public health.
Antimicrobial resistance
Antimicrobial resistance occurs when microorganisms, such as certain bacteria, become resistant to the medicines used to fight them. Infections can then be more difficult to treat and may require adapted treatments. At the LNS, we monitor and analyse these resistance patterns in order to better understand how they evolve and to contribute to effective management of infections.

HIV sequencing
HIV sequencing analyses the virus’s genetic material to identify possible mutations associated with resistance to treatment. This information helps healthcare professionals choose the most appropriate antiretroviral treatment for the patient.
